Jenner Continues to Support Development at SLGSB
Having previously completed the Art & Drama block at Simon Langton Grammar School for Boys in Canterbury, Jenner were delighted to be awarded the contract to construct the new Star Centre building earlier this year. Other new build works include a separate observatory building linked to the Star Centre and a new food technology facility. The contract also includes work within the existing school which comprise a sound and lighting mezzanine area to the hall which is accessed via a helical spiral staircase, alterations to music practice rooms and new laboratories within the Science Block. Furniture for the kitchen work stations in the food technology block and lab furniture is being supplied by not for profit government organisation Remploy.
The phased handover scheme commenced in April earlier this year and the final phase is due to be completed during November.

Works Commence on Retrofit Projects
Jenner has been awarded two of the eighty seven retrofit projects commissioned by the Technology Strategy Board as part of their national competition. The competition was launched in March 2009 by the TSB with a view to making deep cuts in carbon emissions.
The two projects comprise the refurbishment of an existing dwelling at Biggin Hill for Croydon Borough Council which commenced last month and a further property at Tunbridge Wells for The Town & Country Housing Group.
The works include amongst others external render on phenolic insulation, triple glazed windows and internal works to improve the u-value of the ground floor. Renewable technologies are also being introduced within the schemes which include solar thermal, a thermal store heat bank and mechanical heat recovery at Tunbridge Wells. A wood burning stove is also being installed to the living room. At Croydon we are installing a solar gain heat pump, PV to the roof and underfloor heating internally to the ground floor.

Udimore Road, Rye
A ground breaking ceremony took place recently at our Udimore Road, Rye site to mark the commencement of the new housing development named Valley Park. Before work could commence on the houses we undertook a significant amount of civil engineering work which commenced in March earlier this year. This comprised estate roads, sewers and works to safeguard the surrounding area from flood risk. The scheme itself comprises 135 new homes set in 17 acres of landscaped parkland, with children’s play areas and open space. The majority of the new homes will be built for private sale offering 2, 3, 4 and 5 bedroom accommodation. The scheme also offers a significant number of affordable units for rent provided by Orbit Homes.

Jenner Starts 2010 Strongly
Strong Start to 2010
We are delighted to have recently been awarded three housing projects, further cementing relationships with a number of our long standing clients. The first is a scheme at Ashford Drive Maidstone for the Orbit Group which comprises 12 two, three and four bedroom houses and 6 flats. Works are due to start on site later this month. The second is the completion of a 59 unit scheme at Astor Avenue, Dover for the Town and Country Group with the start date for this site planned for the beginning of April. Finally, enabling works have commenced at Military Road, Canterbury to construct 20 houses and 6 flats for Hyde Housing Association. Construction work itself is due to start in April.
Our General works department have also started the year strongly. They have recently commenced a project at Lodge Hill Farm, Wadhurst which entails the construction of a new agricultural barn. Also, alteration works have commenced at Kingsnorth Surgery for GP Premises. The scheme comprises new consultancy rooms to an existing facility originally constructed by Jenner in 2000.

Jenner Projects Receive Top Awards
Two Jenner projects received awards at the recent Construction Safety South East annual safety awards ceremony. Our site at Eastern Esplanade Cliftonville received the Gold Award within the medium and large project category. Also short listed within the same category was our Victoria House site which picked up a certificate for Order of Merit.
An extremely proud Construction Director Nick Barnes who attended the awards ceremony along with site representatives Matt Weston and Simon Ward stated “the fact that two of our sites were nominated is a indication of how seriously we take health and safety as an organisation and we will be working just as hard in the forthcoming year to emulate these fantastic achievements”.
Fortesuce Place, Smeeth was the winner of the Construction Award in the category of the Best Housing Development over 10 units at Ashford Borough Council’s Building Design and Construction Awards 2009 held on 27 January 2010. The scheme also received a High Commended Design Certificate in the Category of Residential Development. A delighted Managing Director Martin Sandall who collected the certificate and eye catching glass trophy on behalf of the team stated “this is a fabulous achievement and continues our success at these awards following a similar accolade being given to the John Wesley Primary School last year”.

Rain Fails to Spoil Ground Breaking Ceremony
Despite persistent rainfall children, teachers and governors of Sissinghurst Church of England Primary School bravely joined representatives from KCC, the Diocesan Board of Education and Jenner to celebrate the commencement of construction work on the new primary school.
The £4.25m scheme comprises five classrooms, a science room, IT suite, library and hall together with a kitchen and other staff and ancillary areas. Also attached to the main school is a nursery facility which is due to be completed at the same time as the main contract. The project incorporates extensive external works comprising an access road, car parking, playground and soft landscaping areas. Works commenced on the scheme in November and are due to complete in February 2011.
Attending the ceremony Managing Director Martin Sandall said “Jenner is delighted to have been commissioned to construct this exciting new primary school facility for the pupils and teachers of Sissinghurst School. We once again look forward to working with the Diocesan Board of Education and KCC, together with their design team led by Diocesan Architectural Services and have complete confidence in our ability to deliver this project within budget and to an exceptional quality”.
