Completed Healthcare Projects
Montefiore Medical Centre
Project: Montefiore Medical Centre
Location: Dumpton Park Drive, Ramsgate
Client: G P Premises Ltd
Contract: Design & Build
Value: £4.0m
With two doctor’s practices and twenty eight doctor’s in total, Montefiore Medical Centre is the largest of the surgery projects undertaken by Jenner and includes a separate pharmacy building. Although the practices are separated physically on different levels they share staircases and passenger lift facilities, thus allowing visitor’s flexibility upon entry to the building.
The sloping nature of the existing site presented interesting challenges which led to the accommodation being incorporated on the lower ground, upper ground and first floors. This in turn resulted in upper and lower level associated car parking areas, timber clad reinforced concrete retaining walls and a bridge feature from the upper car park to the upper ground floor level.
Project Highlights
- Contemporary design
- Masonry ground floor construction
- Steel frame and composite cladding to first floor
- Aluminium powder coated curtain walling, windows and doors
- Fully air conditioned heating and cooling installation to provided flexible environmental control
- Works include specialist furniture and equipment

William Harvey Hospital
Project: Extension & Refurbishment
Location: William Harvey Hospital
Client: East Kent NHS Trust
Contract: JCT 1998 with quantities
Value: £3m
This phased project initially comprised a new build four storey extension to the Pathology Department on the ground floor, SCBU/NICO Departments on the first floor and Child Health on the second floor with a plant room area above.
Located within the hospital grounds, this confined site resulted in a tower crane being required to distribute materials during the construction of the reinforced concrete structure. The external elevations comprise masonry, Sto render, cedar cladding, aluminium windows and curtain walling and brise soliel to all floors. The flat roof covering is an asphalt finish and aluminium copings weather the tops of the parapet walls.
Once the new build phase had been completed we then embarked upon the remaining refurbishment phases within the existing departments. This creating the challenge of working within the three different departments on three floors at any one time.
Project Highlights
- Working within “live” hospital departments
- Close liaison with multiple end user clients
- Close interface with patients/visitors and staff during refurbishment phases
- Coordination of a number of specialist equipment providers
- Complex challenges of working within a confined site within the hospital
- Extensive mechanical and electrical installations with interfaces with existing services
