Castle Street, Dover

Location: Dover

Client: Dover District Council

Value: £1m

Situated on the busy corner junction of Castle Street the scheme provides eight apartments for affordable rent delivered on behalf of Dover District Council to provide essential housing for the local community.

The development was the first stage in the overall St. James’ regeneration, which is now home to popular retail outlets and vibrant restaurants, bars and cafes as well as a leisure complex, hotel and further housing stock.

The new apartments, immersed within a high density of buildings of listed status and those of character, were designed to a high quality and to sit harmoniously within the local setting by including features such as detailed cornices, box gutters and pediments.

Completed in 2015 the scheme followed the success of a smaller 3 unit scheme delivered in Elvington on behalf of Dover District Council which were the first affordable homes to be delivered in the area for a substantial period. Based on the strength of relations established the same team were engaged in the delivery of Castle Street. Relationships continue to go from strength to strength with the William Muge and Snelgrove developments of 65 affordable homes currently being delivered by Jenner on behalf of DDC.
