“We really appreciate all of the opportunities that Jenner have given our students this year, it’s been so great to see how much they enjoy it” – Folkestone College

Back to site for Folkestone College students!

Date: May 2022

Continuing our commitment to inspiring future generations, and assisting with their career development, the Jenner team at Folkestone seafront were delighted to welcome the plastering students from Folkestone College (part of EKC Group) to site, to witness spray plastering first-hand. Spray plastering forms part of the finishing trades to skim the drywalls, and is highly-efficient with a more controllable finish than traditional methods, and also offers health and wellbeing benefits as there is no silica or heavy equipment involved. The lightweight technology of the Knauf airless system being used here means it is less demanding on the user and also uses less water and generates minimal dust, making it a more sustainable and environmentally friendly choice.

Observing this modern methodology on a live construction site (delivering 84 luxury beachfront homes) perfectly showcases the skillset needed to excel in this trade, and better prepares the students for future employment. As Folkestone College’s Industry Liaison Officer Heather Williams, who accompanied the students commented; “visits like this are so imperative in the students learning journey” adding “you are always so supportive and I love seeing how much it inspires the students”.

Led by Jenner Project Manager Chris Page, the students toured the site before engaging with our supply chain partners, Drylining contractor Shepway Ceilings and AT Plastering led by qualified tutor Andrew Mansfield who kindly spent time with the students to impart his wealth of knowledge and will continue to engage with the college as a result of the visits.

Having previously welcomed Folkestone College students to site late last year, and with T-Levels student Lewis Wade a regular on site as part of his learning, Chris Page openly expressed his praise for the students once again, “they were a credit to the College, and I hope they thoroughly enjoyed their visit. Jenner are always happy to engage and look forward to future visits.”
