Delivering sixty five affordable new homes in Dover, the regeneration of the former brownfield sites known as ‘William Muge and Snelgrove’ has been recognised as the winner of the residential category at this year’s RICS South East Awards.

Dover’s bold ambition scoops RICS accolade!

Date: May 2022

As an exemplar for a tenure-blind, high-quality development, this sympathetic regeneration on behalf of Dover District Council, complements the streetscape and proximity of the historic Dover Castle and sets new benchmarks for future housing allocation in the region, and beyond in the design arena. The project fully embraced innovative thinking and the principles of sustainable development to deliver higher densities than originally perceived possible, and an inclusive, secure development that promotes wellbeing for all occupants. The development is one of the most ambitious housing projects the Council has undertaken in many years, underlining their commitment to directly deliver modern and affordable homes for local people, and can now proudly claim its status as an ‘award-winning’ residential development.

The mixed-tenure development offers a healthy mix of homes for affordable rent, shared ownership and private sale and the scheme, which enjoys spectacular views of Dover Castle is within walking distance from Dover’s magnificent coastal White Cliffs, as well the town centre amenities. Responding to its hillside location the mid-rise development offers spacious living for occupants and is heralded as a key milestone in Dover’s bold regeneration plans.

Cited as the winning entry by the judges for providing “much improved community housing to benefit the broader neighbourhood, whilst creating a sympathetic scheme to the nearby ancient Dover Castle” the scheme was announced as the winner on Wednesday 18th May via the RICS YouTube channel which revealed the winners of each category region-by-region, throughout the day. On receiving news of the award, Martin Sandall, Managing Director of Jenner commented: “This is an incredibly worthy winner, in rightful recognition of the energy, enthusiasm and absolute commitment by all those involved in this project from the earliest stages. This award serves as firm testimony to a bonded team with unequivocal synergy in their conduct and a mutual determination to deliver.”

Designed by award-winning architects Avanti and carefully managed by project and cost managers Airey Miller the consultant team worked collaboratively with Jenner in a partnership approach to delivery. Proactively addressing the deprivation that preceded its creation and delivering a progressive development that will stand the test of time, the regeneration catalyses further developments to be delivered to a far higher standard than ever before. Sustainability in the wider sense is about safeguarding future generations and this award-winning development takes great strides forwards in doing so.
