As part of our business commitment to nurturing young talent and addressing the skills agenda to safeguard our industry for future generations, Jenner are delighted to welcome our first ever ‘T-Levels’ student from Folkestone College, as part of the EKC Group.

Putting the ‘T’ in the future of construction!

Date: May 2022

Seventeen year-old Lewis Wade chose construction as a career, opting for the new T-Levels qualification in on-site construction specialising in carpentry, owing to his family links to the industry, inspired by his Grandad who himself was a carpenter and his Father as a plant operator.

The two-year qualification is the equivalent to three A-Levels, and has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses, to better meets the needs of industry and properly prepare students for employment. The course requires a minimum of 45 days of work experience, which Lewis proactively chose to undertake with Jenner. Speaking with Lewis he openly exclaims “I took a gamble on a new course and it is certainly paying off! I love the practical, hands-on approach and direct experience I am gaining each week on site. I am learning so much”. When questioned, why Jenner? Lewis stated, with a smile “I didn’t want to go anywhere else!”

Lewis joins the delivery team on site at Folkestone seafront where Jenner are constructing 84 state-of-the-art luxury new beachside homes. As a flagship build within the Jenner portfolio, Lewis’s is gaining first hand experience of construction methodologies and a better understanding of the huge logistical challenges of construction, especially on a project of this scale and complexity. His time on site is busy and varied from shadowing site staff in their operations to office-based support, and his own ‘upcycling’ project in transforming discussed pallets into flower planters to improve the site compound.

Lewis’s course runs until 2023 and Jenner are excited about what Lewis will achieve in this time, and are delighted to play a part in his journey into construction.
